Leaf-Peeping and Outdoor Adventures

Fall foliage is one of nature’s most beautiful displays, and in Poughkeepsie, these changes reach their peak between mid-October and early November. This time of year creates landscapes that have inspired painters and photographers throughout the years.

The Walkway Over the Hudson is one of the best places to take in these gorgeous seasonal landscapes. It’s an elevated pedestrian bridge that spans 1.28 miles across the Hudson River. It offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including the autumn foliage that drapes them this time of year.

Crisp fall air makes this a wonderful spot for photography, peaceful walks, or simply taking in all the beauty that autumn provides. Many visitors find that an edible from Dutchess Roots before their walk enhances mindfulness and deepens their appreciation of the natural surroundings. In keeping with the season, Vampire’s Kiss Mega Sativa edibles provide the energy needed to enjoy your evening on the bridge fully.

Just a short drive from Poughkeepsie, Millbrook Vineyards & Winery hosts seasonal events that pair award-winning wines with stunning vineyard views. Fall weekends bring food trucks, live jazz concerts, and Art in the Loft exhibitions. Picnic tables are available to the public daily with no reservations required. Sip their Double Gold-winning wines while taking in the backdrop of the Catskill Mountains draped in autumn color (a perfect Hudson River region experience).

Of course, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the outdoors in and around Poughkeepsie. The area has numerous parks and trails that offer excellent leaf-peeping opportunities. Here are a few favorites of visitors near Hyde Park:

A beloved fall tradition in the area is to visit one of the many orchards and farms that open their gates for pick-your-own experiences. Some local farms also offer wagon rides through pumpkin patches and corn mazes. You’ll also often find farm stands selling fresh cider, homemade pies, and other seasonal treats.

After a day at the orchards, many adults find that cannabis products provide the perfect complement to a cozy autumn evening. For an excellent night’s sleep after an exciting day, Supernaturals Chamomile Elderberry Sleep edibles are an excellent choice.

Haunted Houses and Halloween Fun

As October progresses, Poughkeepsie embraces the spooky side of fall with attractions that thrill and chill visitors looking for Halloween excitement.

The Hudson Valley is known for its haunted history, so it’s no surprise that many venues throughout the area turn themselves into frightening experiences for the October season. This includes haunted houses, hayrides, trails, and corn mazes. These events range from very scary to something the kids can enjoy without having nightmares.

There are other Halloween-themed events in Poughkeepsie beyond haunted houses. Visitors will find attractions held at museums, historic sites, and more. Of course, you aren’t limited to events put on by others.

Many adults in the area host their own Halloween celebrations. Often, these gatherings include low-dose edibles to take the edge off of a scary movie marathon. Ayrloom offers several THC-enhanced beverages that are ideal for this, such as Root Beer or Vanilla Cola. Or, to improve focus and creativity for costume-making, 1906 Drops Genius provides just the right boost.
